Why Nature’s Pure Ionizer? Nature’s Pure Ionizer is an inline copper system that releases mineral ions to naturally control bacteria and algae in your pool. Pool Opening (Start of Season)

Before You Begin:

  • Have a our friendly water care specialists analyze your water sample any of our Galaxy showrooms.
  • Make sure all your pool equipment is in good working order.
  • Remove debris and vacuum your pool.
  • If it’s your 2nd or more swim season, remember to replace your ionizer chamber and filter cartridge.

1. Test and Balance Your Water:

  • Alkalinity: 80–120 ppm
  • pH: 7.2–7.6
  • Calcium Hardness: 200–400 ppm
  • Total Dissolved Solids (TDS): 1000-2000 ppm

(TDS levels can’t be measured with your typical test strips. Bring your sample into any Galaxy showroom for a free test and accurate TDS measurement)

2. Run Your Filter:

  • Run your pump and filter continuously for the first 24 hours. It’s recommended that your run your filter continuously throughout the swim season.

Why Run Your Pump Continuously? To evenly distribute chemicals and efficiently filter your water, run your pump 24 hours daily during swim season. Continuous filtration keeps your water crystal clear and reduces chemical expenses.

3. Add Chemicals

  • Add 1 lb of Galaxy Oxidizing Shock per 10,000 gallons; it’s best to apply this at night to avoid chemical degradation caused by UV.
  • Allow the filter to run for 6 hours, then rinse your cartridge filter or backwash your sand.
    • If First Swim Season, Extra Steps:
      • Add 40 lbs of AquaSalt, available at all Galaxy showrooms.
      • Add 20 lbs of Nature’s Pure Borate, broadcasting over the entire pool surface and brushing any undissolved product from the bottom.
      • Let it circulate through the filter for 2 hours.
      • Add 15 lbs of Galaxy pH Minus, broadcasting over the entire pool surface and brushing any undissolved product from the bottom.
      • Test your water after 24-48 hours. Do not add any more chemicals until your pH is between 7.2-7.6
  • Add 4 oz of Algaecide60 per 10,000 gallons. Add directly in front of the return jet with your pump on high.
  • Add 4 oz of Nature’s Pure Water Polish per 10,000 gallons. Add directly in front of the return jet with your pump on high.
  • Add 1 lb of Galaxy Santizing Granular per 10,000 gallons; run your filter for an additional 12 hours.

When Can I Swim? It can take anywhere from 12-24 hours to be ready to swim. When in doubt, test your chlorine levels for a safe-swimming level between 2-5 ppm.

4. Clean or Replace Your Filter

Routine Maintenance (Weekly)

1. Week 1 Chemicals

2. Week 2 Chemicals

  • Add 1 lb of Galaxy Santizing Granular per 10,000 gallons; run your filter for 12 hours.
  • Add 4 oz of Algaecide60 per 10,000 gallons.
  • Add 1 lb Nature’s Pure Borate, broadcasting over the entire pool surface and brushing any undissolved product from the bottom.
  • Use Insta-Test 6 Plus Test Strips to maintain alkalinity, pH, and calcium hardness level within recommended ranges.

3. Alternate Weeks 1 & 2

  • Alternate weeks 1 and 2 throughout the entire swim season.

Note: Wait 8-24 hours or until chlorine levels are between 2-5 ppm before swimming again.

Pool Closing (End of Season)

Prepare your for the off-season:

  • Balance your water (same as pool opening guidelines).
  • Run filter continuously for 24 hours.
  • Shock with 1 lb Galaxy Sanitizing Granular per 10,000 gallons; run filter for 4 hours afterward.
  • Clean pool thoroughly and backwash sand filters.
  • Add 32 oz of Metal Control.
  • Add 1 qt of Algaecide60.

Helpful Tips & Troubleshooting

Cloudy or Green Water?

  • Galaxy Oxidizing Shock and Galaxy Sanitizing Granular can be used to clear up a cloudy or green pool. The water will usually clear within 2-3 days. If your pool remains cloudy or green after 3 days, bring a water sample to your nearest Galaxy showroom for a free professional test and further guidance.

Nature’s Pure Ionizer Troubleshooting Guide

  • When your Nature’s Pure Ionizer is Working Correctly, you will see the following:
    • Power Light is ON
    • Active Light is ON when pool pump is on HIGH
    • Chamber Light is OFF
  • If your Power Light is OFF
    • Check that the Ionizer is plugged into a 110V/20amp GFCI receptacle.
    • Make sure that the power cord is pushed in all the way on the Ionizer unit.
    • Cycle the power by unplugging and plugging the unit back in.
    • Check the breaker.
  • If your Power Light is ON, but Active Light is OFF
    • Cycle the power, wait 5 minutes before turning it back on
    • Make sure the pool pump is on HIGH
    • Test TDS levels. The Active Light will only turn ON if TDS levels are above 1000 ppm.
  • If your Chamber Light is ON
    • If the Active Light has been on and the unit has been working correctly for the season, the chamber light could indicate that you need to replace your chamber. Replacing the chamber should be done each year.
