What is the Super Purifier and Why Should I Use it?
The Super Purifier is a small cartridge placed in your hot tub’s filter housing. It slowly releases minerals that naturally help sanitize the water, reducing your need for daily chlorine dosing and keeping the water softer and gentler—especially for those with sensitive skin.
Bonus: The Super Purifier promotes smoother-feeling water and reduces that “sticky” chlorine residue that can irritate your skin or eyes. It’s a great option if you’re sensitive to traditional chemical-heavy spa care.
And yes—you still need to use a chlorine sanitizer, but far less than a standard system. Instead of daily attention, you’ll just test and sanitize on a weekly basis, making it far easier to stay on top of.
How to Use the Super Purifier Mineral Maintenance Program
1. Test and Balance Your Water First:
- Alkalinity: 80–120 ppm
- pH: 7.2–7.8
- Calcium Hardness: 150–250 ppm
(Tip: You can visit your nearest Galaxy showroom for a free personalized water care test to get started right.)
2. Install the Super Purifier:
- Drop the Super Purifier directly into the filter basket or allow it to float above the filter in the filter housing. Super easy and it starts working immediately.

(Important: Be sure not to insert the Super Purifier directly into your cartridge filter as this can impede water flow.)
3. Initial Sanitization (After Turning the Jets On):
- Add Galaxy Sanitizing Granules: 1 Tbsp per 500 gallons. This is a chlorine-based sanitizer used to kill bacteria and oxidize organic matter. It’s also UV-resistant, making it ideal for outdoor spas.
- Add Galaxy Spa Energizer: 1 cup per 250 gallons.
- Add Galaxy Oxidizing Shock: 2 Tbsp per 500 gallons. This non-chlorine oxidizer clears out oils, lotions, and organic buildup without raising chlorine levels.
- Wait 30 minutes before closing the spa cover.
Routine Maintenance Schedule
Weekly
- Test water for pH, alkalinity, chlorine, and calcium hardness.
- Maintain Free Chlorine Levels (FCL) as low as 1 ppm with the Super Purifier.
- After using your hot tub:
- Add Stain & Scale Preventer: 1 oz per 400 gallons
- Add Galaxy Sanitizing Granules: 1 Tbsp per person
- Add Galaxy Spa Energizer: 2 oz per 250 gallons
- Wait 30 minutes before closing the cover

Missed a week? Don’t panic. Just shock your water with Galaxy Oxidizing Shock, test and rebalance, and resume your normal weekly routine. Always err on the side of caution—bacteria love warm, untreated water.
Every 3-4 Months
- Replace your Super Purifier when you drain and refill your spa (recommended at the same time for best results).
- Deep clean your spa by draining, scrubbing, and refilling. If you’d rather not DIY, Galaxy’s expert team can handle it for you with their Super Clean Service.
Every Year
- Replace your UV bulb if your spa uses one (Jacuzzi & Sundance = yearly; Nordic & CalSpas = every 2–3 years).
- Replace your spa filters.
- Clean diverter valves and jets with a diluted Stain & Scale Preventer solution.
- Got a different brand of hot tub? No problem. These instructions apply to all hot tubs on the Super Purifier system, whether or not yours uses a UV-C bulb.
Helpful Tips & Common Mistakes to Avoid
Cloudy or Hazy Water?
- Balance your pH and alkalinity.
- Add Galaxy Oxidizing Shock (1 oz per 50 gallons), run jets, and keep the cover open for 30 minutes.
- If it’s still cloudy, add Galaxy Clarifier (1 oz per 500 gallons).

Dealing with Foam?
- Rinse off body products before entering and use a spa-only swimsuit.
- If foam shows up, use Galaxy Foam Out.
Watch Your Water Level:
- Keep water above the filter intake. If it’s low, top it off with a garden hose.
No Floating Dispensers Here:
- Floating dispensers only work with tablets. The Super Purifier program uses liquids and granules—manual additions are necessary for accuracy and effectiveness.
Not Sure How Many Gallons Your Spa Holds?
- Check your owner’s manual or find your spa model on the Galaxy website.
