HOW TO REPLACE YOUR CLEARRAY® BULBS (JACUZZI® & SUNDANCE®)

If you own a Jacuzzi® or Sundance® Spas hot tub that was manufactured from 2012 onwards, you may have the CLEARRAY® UV-C water purification system installed. This system utilizes a UV bulb to purify and clean your hot tub water, and it requires an annual bulb replacement to ensure that it is functioning correctly. In this blog post, we will walk you through the steps to change your CLEARRAY® bulb.

It only takes 5 minutes once a year to keep you in clean water!

Replacing Your CLEARRAY® Bulb

Step 1: Turn off the Breaker

Before beginning any work on your hot tub, always turn off the breaker to the tub and allow at least 15 minutes for the bulb to cool down.

Step 2: Remove the Front Cabinet Panel of the Hot Tub

Removing the hot tub panel will expose the interworkings of the hot tub.

Step 3: Remove the CLEARRAY® System Enclosure Cover

With a phillips screwdriver, remove the CLEARRAY® housing cover.

Step 4: Disconnect the UV Bulb Socket

Detach the UV bulb from the housing.

Step 5: Remove the Old UV Bulb

Slowly remove the UV bulb out of the quartz tube and discard it.

Step 6: Install the New UV Bulb

Slide the new UV bulb back inside the quartz tube. Make sure you use the provided latex gloves when handling the UV bulb. DO NOT TOUCH THE NEW UV BULB WITH YOUR BARE HANDS. Oil on your skin will cause hot spots on the UV bulb and shorten the lifespan of your UV bulb.

Step 7: Replace the Cover

Replace the CLEARRAY® System cover and screws.

Step 8: Replace the Front Cabinet Panel

Replace your hot tub’s cabinet panel.

Step 9: Turn the Breaker On

Turn the power back on to your hot tub.

Step 10: Reset Your CLEARRAY® Countdown Timer

Refer to your owner’s manual for instructions on how to change the timer on your hot tub’s control pad.

Why Should I Change My CLEARRAY® Bulb?

The CLEARRAY® system utilizes a specific spectrum of light known as UV-C to inhibit the growth of bacteria, but it is not a standalone solution for keeping hot tub water clean. It is still necessary to maintain a certain level of sanitizer in the water, although the amount required is reduced from 5-6 ppm with traditional hot tub care systems to 1-2 ppm with CLEARRAY®.

It is essential to replace the CLEARRAY® UV-C bulb annually, as its potency decreases significantly after 12 months and becomes virtually ineffective after 18 months.

In addition to reducing sanitizer usage, CLEARRAY® also helps control chloramines, which cause chemical odors in hot tub water. Therefore, using CLEARRAY® not only results in fresher and cleaner-feeling water but also reduces the amount of sanitizer required to maintain it.
